Dave Winer: The mea culpas didn't come - Politics on The Huffington Post

I have the Wright interview queued up to watch. I may even just play the audio on my way to work today.

Dave Winer: The mea culpas didn't come - Politics on The Huffington Post: "At best the MSM got the Wright story wrong, at best it was a mistake. But if it were a mistake, there would have been some mea culpas today, after seeing the Wright interview, someone would have said they got it wrong, maybe even apologized for contributing to the vilification of Rev Wright. "

GTDInbox Updated

This is nice. the GTD tool for Gmail is now updated to work with the latest Gmail tweaks. This broke for me about one week into using this, and I've been hobbling along without it for a long time (or what seemed to be). Good to see that they updated it. Now off to donate! :)

Clinton presses case after big Pennsylvania win

Is the conversation really about who can beat whom in an election, or is it who can bring the most to the table next year? Obviously Hillary fixates her message on the former, when it's really the later that matters.

Plus, how is this win big? Double-digit lead, sure, but that equates to only 10 more delegates than she had before. Still not enough to win the party's nomination.

Clinton presses case after big Pennsylvania win - USATODAY.com
"I won that double-digit victory that everybody on TV said I had to win, and the voters of Pennsylvania clearly made their views known -- that they think I would be the best president and the better candidate to go against Senator McCain," Clinton said Wednesday morning in a CNN interview.

Spanning Sync v2.0 Adds Contact Sync

This is really great. I use Spanning Sync to synchronize my Mac's calendar with Google Calendar. Soon I'll be able to sync my contact list. This is about as huge for me as I use Google apps every day, multiple times a day for work and personal settings. And it'll be free. Dang!

SplashData News: iPhone SDK released

It's really great to see the guys over at SplashData working to adapt to the iPhone / Mac, but unfortunately 1Password ate their lunch while they slept. Frankly, 1Password beats anything SplashID was able to do by a mile.

Apple Announces iPhone 2.0 Software Beta

This is very cool stuff. I think it's great because I'm an iPhone user, but I also think it's great as it demonstrates how responsive companies innovate.

I guess we'll see how ActiveSync on the iPhone is received, but I have a feeling it will put Windows Mobile to shame. While I must say, I've never personally used a Windows Mobile device with Exchange, I have used Windows Mobile in the past. If the general usability of the iPhone is any indication, this functionality will rock. Blackberry users will drool.

Loading applications on a smartphone was always a PITA. You had to find them somewhere on the web, download them, install them on your desktop then before you could sync them to your phone. How odd is that? Why do you have to install a smartphone app on your desktop? It makes so much more sense to load them directly on to your phone.

The one gap Apple didn't address with this announcement is desktop sync. How do you sync information between desktop apps and iPhone apps? Perhaps there are APIs available that they didn't get to in the presentation. Perhaps I'll go in and pick up the SDK just to find out...

IT May Be Dead This Time 'Round

I remember reading Byte magazine in the early '80s where pundits decried the impending doom of MIS (what they used to call IT).  The rise of personal computers, then, as now, user enablement was the rallying cry behind that prediction.  Unfortunately, even "personal" couldn't live up to their promises.  Even pre-Iternet, the much more personal computer wasn't enough.

Today we not only have user enabled desktops, but we have mobile devices and now services.  What else is there for IT to do down the road?  Is that a rotting carcase I smell?

Google tries to sneak "Team Edition" suite past IT help desk
Google Apps Team Edition is aimed at enabling user and group-level collaboration without the need for approval from the IT department.

maro Tests the Sigma 50-150mm II

Again, Fujieda-san tests the new Sigma 50-150mm DC II.  A very interesting lens that overall he rates higher than the previous model, but he doesn't see much of a difference when used to photograph a close-up test pattern.  Frankly this is a little disappointing.  It might be better to look for a bargain on the non-II version than jump on the II right away.

いずれにしても、私がテストした方法では、その差異を見いだすことは出来なかっ た。[レンズテスト]にアップしてあるので、ご覧頂きたい。

10 Cold Calling Tips

Very interesting list, even though I normally despise top-ten lists.  It makes you think about what it looks like to be great with people.

Insult to Which Injury?

Love this gem.  So, it's now Apple's fault for not designing the USB port in the MacBook Air so that every third party USB accessories will fit.  Time to call the Waaaaaambulance.  I really should remove Engadget from my RSS reader.

Adding insult to injury: USB 3G modems won't fit in the MacBook Air - Engadget
Ouch, we just tested and confirmed that one of the smallest (and thus likeliest to fit) USB EV-DO modems around, the Sprint / Novatel U727, won't even come close to fitting in the cramped, foldaway USB port on the MacBook Air.

Ti(RED)

My friend Bryan F. was wearing a message-tee the other day with simply the word "Ti(RED)" on it.  At the time, I thought, well, that's a little overboard on a notion of riding the world of AIDS.  Then the three most Ti(RED) icons of our times (Bill "Hey, I no longer work at Microsoft" Gates, Michael "Apple should just return investor's money" Dell, and Bono "No innovation since Boy" ... Bono) show up and try to peddle Dell PeeCees.  Well, it's now painfully clear that corporations (Bono included) who have to brand consumer products and reach into consumer's pockets in order to help out the world's needy is quite a "Ti(RED)" notion.

Dell and Microsoft get official with (PRODUCT) RED gear - Engadget
We knew Dell and Microsoft would be giving some of their gear the Bono treatment this week, but the two companies and the AIDS-in-Africa relief project unveiled their partnership in style today at Davos.

One More Reason to Use Apple Numbers on a Mac

Mac Excel 2008 vs Excel 2004 Performance Test
As Office 2008 is Intel native, I was expecting a speed-boost over 2004. However, I have found that creating and editing charts is over four times slower in 2008 as opposed to 2004!

More and More Third Parties Paying Attention to the Mac

I had always bemoaned the lack of third party support for Apple computers.  Now it seems, more and more are paying attention.  There's a huge opportunity there.

Build Up Those Walls

The Raw Story | Huckabee: Amend Constitution to be in 'God's standards'
"I have opponents in this race who do not want to change the Constitution," Huckabee told a Michigan audience on Monday. "But I believe it's a lot easier to change the Constitution than it would be to change the word of the living god. And that's what we need to do -- to amend the Constitution so it's in God's standards rather than try to change God's standards so it lines up with some contemporary view."

Gizomodo should be shot for going around and vandalizing booths at CES by IR blasting screens to turn them off during demonstrations.  It's criminal.  Guys, just roll over and shutter your site.  You seem to be more committed to getting laughs than reporting on market news.
